Carriers are not imagining it. Industry surveys put predatory charges on a large share of heavy tow invoices. Here is what we do about each one, in writing.
"They will hold the truck until I pay whatever they decide to ask."
The rate lines and the total are agreed before we hook, and that is the number on the invoice when you collect the unit. You name the destination and it goes on the same quote: your yard, your shop, your terminal or a dealer.
"A second truck I never approved shows up on the invoice."
We tell you on the first call what the job needs. If the scene turns out to need more than we quoted, we stop, we call you, and we wait. No unit is added to your bill because it was parked nearby.
"The invoice arrives with lines nobody ever explained."
Hook, time on scene, loaded miles, after-hours differential, storage if there is any. Same names, same order, same numbers you heard on the phone. Photos from the scene come with it.
"Nobody picks up the phone at two in the morning."

Out of state: an emergency recovery of a disabled unit that has to cross a state line is arranged case by case. Non-emergency hauling for hire outside Florida is not work we take.

Why no dollar amounts here: a heavy recovery is priced on the unit, the scene and the distance, so a number on a web page would be a number we would have to walk back on the phone. What is fixed is the list. These are the only lines we quote, and the invoice repeats them in the same order.
You screen vendors for risk, not for adjectives. So here is the public record, the capacity we actually have, and the paperwork, without you having to ask twice.
Our capacity, stated honestly: one heavy wrecker and two operators. That means one heavy call at a time. If the unit is already working, we tell you on that call instead of holding your load in a queue. We would rather lose the job than promise a truck we do not have.
